Welcome To PAMUN 2009!
Welcome To PAMUN 2009!
The conference is designed for High School students, aged 14-18, and will be conducted in English.
PAMUN 2009 will harbor several new features. We will expand to 900 participants and open two new committees, totaling 9 committees and a General Assembly (please refer to the issues on the agenda). We have also modified and streamlined the online registration process and have tightened the payment requirements, with the one and only aim to keep and if possible enhance the high quality of the event.
Delegates will not be expected to draft resolutions prior to the conference, since in the PAMUN structure resolutions are being built as a joint effort during committee sessions. But they should be fully informed about the issues they will debate and the position of the country they represent, and they should be ready to engage during the conference in drafting resolutions proposals and seek constructive compromise. It is however strongly recommended that delegates come to the conference with 2-3 formulated clauses on one of the issues on the agenda, to facilitate and render more efficient caucus time. Crisis scenarios are also run in all committees!
We hope to see you all in Paris in the fall,
Ouriel RESHEF
MUN Director
It is my pleasure to invite you to participate in the 9th annual Paris Model United Nations (PAMUN) conference, to be held on December 4-6, 2009 (Friday to Sunday). The conference will be held in the Paris headquarters of UNESCO, overlooking the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides, in the 7th arrondissement.
In 2006, 2007 and 2008, PAMUN gathered close to 800 participants, from 60 schools, 25 countries and 3 continents, and has become one of the foremost conferences in Europe. Founded as a one day conference for half a dozen schools in the Paris area, it has grown very quickly without losing its conviviality, and provides the delegates with an incredible intellectual experience in Committees and a memorable social experience of Paris. PAMUN is affiliated to The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) and therefore promotes the educational aims of THIMUN.
representing the wishes of all of our respective nations while being open-minded enough to find actual solutions and audacious enough to implement them, helping to solve some of the most controversial and pressing issues the world faces today.
The theme of this year’s conference is “A World in Crisis”. It is actually not that melodramatic, because that is truly the situation we find ourselves in today. The world is currently in the midst of the largest global economic meltdown since the Great Depression, while dealing with Global Warming, the Food Crisis, rampant poverty and unchecked health concerns, as well as others issues. When one nation begins to feel the effects of a predicament, international relations begin to deteriorate. When the entire world is suffering from multiple calamities at the same time, “crisis” is probably the proper term to use. In this light, it is our responsibility, as delegates and potential world leaders, to find a way to navigate through these crises, finding resolutions that will appeal to all nations and will help ameliorate all of the dilemmas we face.
Partaking in a MUN conference is an extraordinary opportunity for all who have the occasion to participate. The Executive Team has a new-found responsibility in organising the conference. The Student Officers guide delegates through the debate and ensure that all delegates have the equal opportunity to partake and express their suggestions. The most rewarding experience is that of the delegates; delegates get to represent millions of people and find inventive new solutions for critical issues. MUN conferences are for the delegates, and it is their work that determines the reputation of the conference. Ultimately, any MUN conference is a different and unique experience that stays with us for a long time. They show us that any of us may one day be able to implement the resolutions that we passed here, and truly make a difference.
Again, as Secretary General, it is my pleasure and honour to welcome you all to PAMUN 2009. Rest assured that we will attempt our best to ensure PAMUN IX as a memorable and proud experience. I look forward to the success that we are sure to see during this conference.
Zohreen Badruddin
Secretary General
Delegates, Ambassadors, Student Officers, Admin Staff and MUN Directors,
As Secretary General, I have the utmost honour to cordially welcome you to the IX Annual Paris Model United Nations Conference. MUN Conferences are held often, and all over the world. However, PAMUN is especially unique. We are, first of all, based in Paris, one of the most cosmopolitan and renowned cities as well as the capital of France. We also have the exclusive privilege of hosting PAMUN at the UNESCO headquarters. In addition to holding the responsibility of representing an entire nation, delegates have the honour to sit in the same chairs and walk up the same stairs to the same podium as the real ambassadors at UNESCO. No other MUN conference in Europe can boast of this. The unique culmination of Paris and UNESCO along with the individuality and ingenuity of the delegates is sure to help us attain our ultimate goal:
